Happy Friday! Boy, I could use a nap — but no sleeping for me because it’s time for another awesome book cover. Today’s pick is the children’s book The Broken Lands by author Kate Milford and illustrator Andrea Offermann.
It was published last year. Here’s a description:
A crossroads can be a place of great power. So begins this deliciously spine-tingling prequel to Kate Milford’s The Boneshaker, set in the colorful world of nineteenth-century Coney Island and New York City. Few crossroads compare to the one being formed by the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River, and as the bridge’s construction progresses, forces of unimaginable evil seek to bend that power to their advantage. Only two orphans with unusual skills stand in their way. Can the teenagers Sam, a card sharp, and Jin, a fireworks expert, stop them before it’s too late? Here is a richly textured, slow-burning thriller about friendship, courage, and the age-old fight between good and evil.
Just to dispel any confusion, this is the prequel to The Boneshaker, not Boneshaker.
But wow, is this cover gorgeous or what? I love the colors and the viewpoint. Very creative, and it has a ton of detail, too.
What do you think?
I have a long weekend ahead of me (game reviewing and running around, as usual), and I’m determined to squeeze in some leisure time for reading. My boyfriend and I have been watching the first season of American Horror Story although I’m not sure why at this point. I’m curious about the remaining episodes, but we both hate about 80 percent of the characters, and the show doesn’t make any sense at times. Have you seen it? Thoughts?

Very nice illustration :) x
I have totally almost bought that book on account of its cover before. Good call :) (and maybe I WILL buy it soon, I still want to read it.)
It sounds cool! If you buy it, let me know how you like it. :)
Have a great weekend, and thanks for dropping by!
Wow! That’s a gorgeous cover! I’m crazy about the colors too, and especially all the detail. That would look so good hanging on the wall in my office :)
I’m sorry to say I have only seen one episode of American Horror Story. I couldn’t bear to look at Jessica Lange anymore, so I haven’t watched any episodes since. I know, that’s mean. Sorry. But she was so beautiful. Before. I’ll have to rely on you for reports on the show :)
Happy (busy) weekend Stephanie! xo
Oooh, I would LOVE this as a print! <3
Haha, does Lange play the mom? I can see that; her face looks very aged. The mom is one of my favorite characters, though! :)
The episode I saw, she was a nun. I think she’s a mental patient or something this season? She’s nuts I guess, and nuts is what Jessica Lange does the best, lol. Maybe I’ll have to try again….
Hmm, I think I know what episode you’re referring to (the mental patient thing was temporary lol), but a nun? Haha, I have no idea then.
